My Broun / Brown, Wyld, Stewart, Lang Ancestry: Starting from my Father

Welcome to my personal genealogy website. It is currently undergoing construction and therefore you will find that some of the pages, as yet, do not incorporate any design and some of the information is a bit jumbled. However, the information is all there and I hope you will enjoy finding your own ancestors here.

I have divided my pages into three sections where you will find highly detailed charts of my father's more distant ancestors, and biographical information relating to specific individuals. I have also provided a chart showing the most recent generations, and I am preparing a location map.

The Broun / Brown - Wyld Section shows the ancestry of my great grandfather Claud Brown and my great grandmother Marion Janet Wyld - going back to the 16th century in places! Because they were cousins, I have grouped these two great grandparents of mine together. The Broun side of the family underwent a name change from Broun to Brown in the 18th century, but my grandfather Claud Leonard Broun changed it back again to reflect his Scottish ancestry.
The Stewart section shows the ancestry of my great grandfather Thomas Maclachlan Stewart. The Stewarts were largely a Bute family. The Maclachlan side had come to Bute from Ayrshire. The Macraes too might have originated from the Ayrshire / Renfrewshire area.
The Lang section shows the ancestry of my great grandmother Helena Mary Lang. The Langs lived mainly in the area north of the River Clyde, south of the Campsie Fells, including Glasgow. The Langs were largely an East Dunbartonshire / Stirlingshire and Glasgow family, the Kennedy side were more from West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and Glasgow.

If you look at each of the sections you will see that there are actually Kennedys on each! There are infact 4 lines of Kennedys altogether! However, I have not traced any connection between them. There is a tradition that the Kennedys on my grandfather Broun's side were descended from the Earls of Cassilis. The Kennedys from whom my great grandfather Stewart were descended were also from Ayrshire. The Kennedys from whom my great grandmother Lang were desended were from Dunbartonshire. There are also several Stewart lines and one Stuart line. Sofar as I can make out the Stewarts were all from Bute. The Stuarts were probably from Glasgow.
