A history of the Mackellars published by the Clan Campbell Society gives her middle name as Jamieson, though her birth certificate shows only the initial letter.
The 1871 census shows an entry for Elizabeth Mackellar, living in Marine Parade, Eastbourne, born in Scotland, with a lot of scorings out. However, there is a phrase which reads Int: on property in Australia. It also shows a Margaret Mackellar, born in Australia, 39, as her daughter. This is probably a mistake as the dates do not tally. However, Margaret could well have been her sister as I think she was born around 1832 (although I cannot recall how I derived this date). I know that these are almost certainly the Mackellars in our family because a Claud Brown, born in Australia and Oxford undergraduate, is shown at the same address, aged 20.
In the 1881 census she is recorded as Margaret J Mackellar, 9 Vicarage Gdns, Kensington, London. She is shown as aged 49 and as having been born in St. Vincent, Australia.
In the 1891 census she appears at 9 Vicarage Gardens, Kensington, London, and as having been born in St. Vincent, Australia.
In the 1911 census she appears at 94 Campden Hill Road, with the same birth details, and with an age of 79.
